It is such a beautiful, warm day here today! We took our writer’s notebooks outside to write today. I got amazing results from my Kindergarten writers for the first time we went outside to write! First, I want to share what I wrote today in my writer’s notebook…
Breeze blowing gently through my hair
American Flag waving
Bright, yellow sun shining down on me
Writers jotting down their thoughts and observations
Sky as blue as the ocean
Not a cloud in sight
Birds cheerfully chirping
Brakes squealing
Wahoo-Wahoo
Oh, how I love the sights and sounds of the outdoors on a beautiful March day!
Here are some samples from my Kindergarten writers:
I love that you write with your students. Their work is amazing too. Kindergartners do great things when we let them free to do it. Great to get them outdoors, too.

Thanks for sharing these amazing K journals! They are so observant. And your poem was a great model.

The best part is that I didn’t even share my writer’s notebook entry until we shared at the end!!! That was all on their own! 🙂

Love, love, love! I’m so excited to hear that you took your students outside to write. My kids bring beach towels and keep in their lockers for days like that!!!

These are fantastic results. Exactly as Ralph Fletcher would have recommended. So powerful how our youngest learners CAN, when they have the right inspiration and time to write.

This is fabulous, Shelly! You are part of your writing community. I think that is at least one of the reasons you get so much out of your kids. Love the variety of samples you shared. Thank you!
