Out of my Comfort Zone

An email went out from a teacher asking for anyone that may be interested in participating in a flash mob for the district talent show.

Thought about it for a quick second. No way could I get up in front of the community to dance (as much I love to dance). Delete.

Then, a second email went out with a sample video clip of what she was thinking we would do. Hmmm. Looks fun. I love to dance. Have been doing Zumba. Why not?

I replied saying I would do it!

What?!?!? Afterwards, I thought am I crazy? Did I lose my marbles? Not something I would normally volunteer to do. Definitely out of my comfort zone.

Those who agreed to participate got an email with a clip with choreography to the song, “Can’t Stop the Feeling” by Justin Timberlake. Overwhelmed. Anxious. Excited. Nervous. How will this turn out?

We practiced before and after school a few times. Practiced at home. Thought, “I got this!” It will be fun!

Showtime!!! Arrived to find out that we had 16 other performers before us! Talk about anticipation! Butterflies in my stomach! A mix of emotions…from nervous to excitement.

It was time. Here goes nothing!

Everything went smoothly and it was so much fun. I’m so glad I decided to participate in the talent show! It will definitely will be a time I’ll never forget!

  1. Oh, I hope you have a video clip to post! How much fun – and Shelly, I didn’t know you liked to dance. This post is full of positive emotion. The risk-taking element and the fact that you went for it – I hope you share with your students. Brava!
