A Nice Quiet Thanksgiving at Home

Sometimes a break from the regular holiday craziness is just what is needed! My husband, Matt, and I did our own Thanksgiving this year…just the two of us and of course Ginger, our dog. We recently moved into a new home and decided instead of running here and there we just wanted to relax. Did we ever cook a turkey before? NO, OF COURSE NOT!!!

Matt found a recipe for a turkey in the crockpot. Sounded great to me! So we got a little 4.5 lb. turkey (so cute) and we both said to each other to remember to set it out to thaw. The directions said 2 days.

It was Wednesday (the day before Thanksgiving) and I get a text from Matt…”Crap!!!!!” Ugh..turkey still in the freezer. Of course we both forgot. 😞 I set out the turkey when I got home and Matt used cold water to help thaw it (also in directions).

We got up Thanksgiving morning. YAY!! The turkey was thawed and ready to be put in crock pot! We followed the recipe and then hoped for the best!

About 6 hours in, we started everything else…broccoli casserole, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing, and gravy. All was going well considering our first Thanksgiving meal we were cooking.

The turkey was ready to come out of the crockpot 7 hours later.

Time to put the turkey in the oven on broil for a few minutes.

Perfection! Was delicious!!! So very juicy and tender!

As for the sides…everything came out beautifully (except for the stuffing). Can’t have it all right the first time, right?

Dinner was amazing! It was peaceful and just us. Matt and I had amazing time together…from preparing the food to sitting down and having a wonderful meal! What a perfect Thanksgiving in our new home!
